How we test and check
Drydock is written and maintained by the Drydock editorial team at Ahzy Capital. This page explains exactly what we do, and what we don't, so you can judge how much to trust each page.
What we do
- Editorial review, not lab benchmarks. We read official documentation, pricing pages, changelogs, model cards and papers, and we try tools ourselves where a free tier or trial allows. We do not run our own benchmark lab, and we never publish scores we didn't measure.
- Official sources first. Prices, limits and features come from the vendor's own pages. Third party numbers (benchmarks, traffic estimates) are always attributed and linked to whoever measured them.
- Dates on everything. Every guide shows when it was published and last updated. Tables show a last checked or last verified date.
- No guessing. If we can't confirm a number on an official page, we write Check site or leave it out.
How the pricing tracker works
The pricing tracker lists 12 tools. An editor reads each vendor's official pricing page and records the free tier and the cheapest paid plan, along with the exact wording that appears on the page. Every night a script fetches each page again and checks that wording is still there:
- If it is, the row's last verified date moves to that day.
- If the page changed, the row shows Check site until an editor rereads it, and the change goes into the weekly what changed log.
- If the page can't be read automatically (it blocks bots or loads prices with JavaScript), the row says so instead of showing a stale price.
Every daily snapshot is kept, so the change log reflects real differences between checks. The full table is available as a CSV download.
How we write comparisons
We only write an “X vs Y” page when people actually search for that pair (we check Google and Bing autocomplete). Spec tables use the verified tracker data plus each vendor's official pages. The verdict is our editorial judgement for specific situations, not a score. If an existing guide already covers a pair, we link to it instead of writing a second page. See all comparisons.
Independence and money
Placement can't be bought. The site may show clearly labelled ads, and nobody pays to be listed or compared. If that ever changes for a page, the page will say so at the top.
